How historical weather data is gathered
If you are using your present location, the closest station to your present position is used. When using the map, the weather station you select is used. Once the station is selected, the data for that station is pulled from the National Weather Service. The program does no manipulation or correction of data other than averaging and converting from Metric to Imperial. Every reasonable attempt is made to use only weather stations that have been in use on or before 1965 (most stations used were put into service before 1950).
